Foreign Language

Middle school Spanish consists of two classes, Spanish 1A and Spanish 1B.  The two classes combined equate to one year of a high school language credit.  The student takes Spanish 1A as a 7th grade elective.  As long as they earn a "C" or above for the class, they can take the second part, Spanish 1B, as an 8th grade elective.  The text book for Spanish 1A & 1B is considered a 9th grade text book.  When they continue on to high school, they would then take Spanish II as an elective in high school to fulfill the language graduation requirement.

Middle school French is set up the same way.
